The Museum of World Cultures (formerly the Ethnographic Museum) is located near the Old Market Square in Poznań. It is housed in the beautifully decorated building of a former Masonic lodge, which was once considered one of the most impressive lodge structures in Europe. Today - in keeping with the name and mission of this branch of the National Museum in Poznań - it houses various objects from around the world possessing historical, cultural, and aesthetic value. These include artifacts from 54 countries across every continent!
In the renovated and modernized Museum of World Cultures, the lobby and staircase, among other areas, have been revitalized. New rooms have been created - an education room and a relaxation room - while the refurbished, spacious exhibition halls now host two permanent exhibitions: "EXotica?" and "Creations: Folk Costumes Drawn to Measure."
"EXotica?" is an exhibition that prompts reflection on the meaning of the word "exotic" and how our perception of the world changes. Surprising juxtapositions of objects from India, Peru, Amazonia, Tibet, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Morocco, and Mali with those from Poland reveal similarities where we usually see differences.
"Creations: Folk Costumes Drawn to Measure" presents 50 colorful works from the years 1930–1939 that have never been shown publicly before. Based on these, unique garments have been recreated, which you can now see for yourself.
